It was built in 1998, but didn't become part of the hut system until 2003. it sits at 11,700 ft above sea level, and is about 6 miles from Leadville, but only a 3 mile hike in from the trail head, which was much shorter than our last trip up to Janet's. WebbThis is a really fun hike through the incredible San Isabel National Forest, along a well-loved trail which takes hikers out and up to the Sangree M. Froelicher hut. The trailhead can be found off to the side of the Interstate-70 and over Climax pass toward Leadville. The hike makes for a great challenge, and is totally worth the effort.
